What's Next?

 

WORSHIP

   

-         new sanctuary seating 275, plus 25-30 in choir

-         short aisle (modified “in-the-round”, like current worship center)

-         larger altar area

-         integral Baptismal font

-         space for organ and piano, with good acoustics throughout

-         full-scope sacristy, plus area near altar for celebrants to robe

-         spacious, sound-deadening lobby or entry

-         chapel to seat 30-50

-         courtyard for reflection, meditation, and interment

-         visible from both Tramway & Tennyson avenues and distinctive as a church (bell tower?)


CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

 

-         10 classrooms (6 current, 4 new; perhaps remodeling Commons?)

o     1 nursery (current is too small)

o     1 pre-school (current is too small)

o     4 elementary school (probably not practical to share 2 with Family Cooperative Pre-School)

o     1 middle school (current OK)

o     1 high school (larger to allow “hanging out”)

o     1 choir/adult education (remodeled Commons with higher ceilings?)

o     1 library/conference room/Vestry/adult education

 

-         Play yard (visible from fellowship hall)


FELLOWSHIP

 

-         fellowship hall double the size of current Commons (current worship center would work well, as envisioned in 1982 Master Plan)

-         kitchen & pantry (current kitchen would work well, as envisioned in 1982 Master Plan)

-         covered outdoor courtyard

   


OFFICES

 

-         4 (2 existing)(rector, assistant, deacon, Christian Education Director?)

-         1 reception area – secretary plus desk area for treasurer, etc

-         1 administrative work room

 

OTHER

 

-         Bathrooms to be sufficient (include showers for youth overnighters)

-         Storage sufficient for all functional areas

-         Parking as needed (approximately twice the current 94 spaces)

-         Character consistent with current worship, interior, & architectural styles

-         Consider possible views

 

WHAT’S NEXT?

 

-         Refine above Preliminary Facility Goals/Requirements, taking into account your comments and suggestions

-        Include in Request For Proposal to be issued to short-listed architects

 

-        Facility goals/requirements will be continuously refined based on

o    Short-listed architects’ preliminary ideas

o    Selected architect’s possible concepts

o    Preliminary cost estimates

o    Success of Building Fund Pledge Drive (early in 2008)
