St.
Chad’s Building Committee Town Hall Meeting Notes 07/15/2007 Bob
Gough presented an overview of the Town Hall Meeting process.
Hal DeHoff led the discussion of the survey questions, which had been
handed out to the attendees. The
following comments were provided by various attendees during the Town Hall
session. 1.
Traditional worship settings. Question:
Was the mission statement generated as part of the rector search?
This question was answered by Merri Jean Jones, who recollected that the
mission statement was created about seven years ago during the Vision Process.
Father Brian reiterated that the Vestry reaffirmed the mission statement
this past March. Question:
Does this item mean a traditional sanctuary, permanent, altar unmovable,
cast in concrete? Hal’s response
indicated that Comments column should be used to indicate the specifics the
respondent is thinking. Question:
Does this item include a chapel? Hal’s
response indicated that a chapel might be addressed under item 10 (Special
accommodations for reflection and prayer). 2.
A variety of non-traditional worship settings.
No comments from the attendees. 3.
Christian education for youth.
No comments. 4.
Christian education for adults.
No comments. 5.
Fellowship area specifically for teens.
Question:
Does this mean a room set aside for teens only?
Response indicated that the space might include a foosball table, a
graffiti wall, and other aspects that might limit some other uses of the space. Question:
How is this item different from number 14?
Response indicated that we would strive to make each room
multi-functional; however, the teen space may be an exception. 6.
Onsite fellowship activities – e.g. Sunday breakfast, social
gatherings, coffee shop, library, etc.
No comments. 7.
Open our church to community groups and activities.
No comments. 8.
Sponsor concerts and performances.
An acoustical engineer might be required for input to the building plans
if a concert hall is a priority for the parishioners. 9.
In-house outreach programs – e.g. food pantry, soup kitchen,
emergency shelter. No comment. 10.
Special accommodations for reflection and prayer (inside or outside).
No comment. 11.
Accommodations for the interment of remains of the deceased.
No comment. 12.
Allow the Family Cooperative Pre-school to expand their program at St.
Chad’s. No comment. 13.
Establish and operate an accredited primary school.
Hal also reported that the first Town Hall meeting came up with a related
item that became number 16 on the survey: Should St. Chad have a full day care
center/pre-school? Question:
Does this mean an Episcopal Church school?
Or a Christian school? Hal
responded by asking the respondents to indicate on the survey what specifically
they are thinking as the school question is open-ended. Question:
Are there insurance considerations for some these ministries?
The response was in the affirmative, but it was also noted that any
determination to move forward on new ministries would be the responsibility of
the Vestry, which would need to consider all aspects including insurance needs. Comment:
An after-school program for school age children might also be considered. 14.
Sponsor programs for teenagers (including neighborhood teens) to meet
– e.g. game room, evening coffee house, weekly get-togethers, and gym.
No comment. 15.
Sponsor program for people with special needs – e.g. seniors,
substance abuse, handicapped. No
comment. Other:
¨
St. Chad’s should provide a
place for people who are interested in helping neighbors, such as a collection
place for the RoadRunner back pack project and a place for agencies to come and
coordinate their efforts. This was
condensed into “Become a resource facility for outreach agencies”.
¨
St. Chad’s needs more meeting
facilities. Respectfully
submitted, Eileen
