Building Committee Input to June 2007 Monthly Newsletter

As you know, the Vestry recently established a Building Committee and tasked it to plan and implement an expansion of St Chad’s facilities to accommodate the wonderful growth that we have been experiencing.  Each month in this space, I expect to give you a brief update on the progress of our Building Program.  In this, the first of those updates, I want to do two things: 1) remind you that your substantive input, active participation, and prayers will be critical for that program to succeed, and 2) let you know how you can provide inputs and suggestions.  In subsequent updates, I will tell you more about our planning, and about how your participation will be crucial.

A Building Program cannot succeed if undertaken solely by those few who comprise the BC or who sit on the Vestry; instead, it must be embraced and supported by the whole congregation.  In that regard, there will be numerous opportunities for all parishioners to contribute their talents, labor, and yes, treasure to this endeavor.  In that way, the St Chad’s Building Program is not simply an opportunity to expand facilities, but also a chance for us – corporately and individually -- to grow in ministry, shared purpose, and community.

The Building Committee will be asking you, the direct “customers” or “clients” of the Building Program, to help prioritize the most important facility requirements that should be sought in the expansion.  Because the shape and character of the enlarged facilities should be driven by the purposes they are to serve – that is, the ministries that they will be used to facilitate -- we will first try to identify the ministries that receive special emphasis at St Chad’s – now and after the expansion has been completed.  And we will be asking you, the parishioners, to do that.  We hope to hold a couple “town meetings” in early July to take this important first step.  In the meantime, please be thinking about these issues and be ready to provide your input.

I am delighted to report that the following people have committed to serve on the Building Committee for its expected three-year duration: Paul Apodaca, Larry Babineaux, Susan Carson, Hal DeHoff, Kitsie Hilaire, Merri Jean Jones, Bo Keith, Debra Kincaid, Jan Kingsbury, Rich Lehoucq, Eileen Simpson, Rich Simpson, and, of course Father Brian Winter.  Each brings valuable talents and experience to our task, and I encourage you to share your views with any of them or me at any time.  While it will not be possible for everyone to have their way, I can promise that everyone will have a chance to have their say.

Faithfully,

Bob Gough, Chair
