Building Committee Building
Committee Input to August 2007 Monthly Newsletter Building for Our Ministries As this update is being written, we have just finished the two Building Committee-hosted “town hall” meetings led by Bob Kingsbury and Hal DeHoff to elicit parishioners’ views about the various ministries that should be emphasized by St Chad’s – and should guide the design of our facility enlargement. When the Building Committee completes its analysis of the responses from the 68 attendees at those town hall meetings, we will report them to the Vestry and to you. In the meantime, many thanks to those who attended and provided input. Another Building Committee activity currently underway is a survey of 6-8 other churches, led my Merri Jean Jones and Debra Kincaid. From those surveys, we may glean helpful ideas about eventual design features, how best to balance classroom, fellowship, kitchen, and office space with the sanctuary size, and possibly even helpful suggestions about architects and builders. Another activity that is in the planning stage now is for the Building Committee to host a series of fund-raising activities. Although the Building Fund pledge drive, planned to kick off in January 2008, is expected to provide the lion’s share of internally-generated funds for the Building Program, we feel it important to host a number of smaller activities, probably one per quarter, that would raise some money for the Building Program but also would provide opportunities for every parishioner to participate in the Building Program from an early point. In addition, we hope that the activities will prove to be “fun-raising” as well. Rich Lehoucq, and Jan Kingsbury are brainstorming ideas now, and you will be hearing details in the next month or two for an event likely to occur in October. Since it’s still too early to be able to provide much substantive detail about each of the above efforts, I’d like to focus this month’s update on the steps that the Building Committee is taking to keep you abreast of our work (in addition to this monthly update in The View). You surely have seen the poster near the front door that Eileen Simpson made and the special easel hand-crafted by Harold DeHoff for publicizing Building Program events and status, and for containing the minutes or summaries of the latest BC meetings. In addition, Hal DeHoff has created a link on the St Chad’s website that you can access at any time. Currently, the Building Committee website contains contact information for BC members and the topical area which each leads, minutes of our meetings, and copies of these updates. We also plan to put results of the town hall meetings, eventual site plans, floor plans, etc, etc, on the website as they become available. Go the St Chad’s website (www.stchadsabq.org), click on the Building Committee link in the left sidebar, and then click on subordinate links of interest to you. Faithfully, Bob Gough, Chair |
